Choosing the right daycare facility for your child is important. You want to know that wherever you take them, they are going to be safe and cared for. That can mean that it may be hard for you to find the right center. There are things that you can look for that can make it easier for you to find the right place for your child.
Adult/Child Ratio
One thing you need to do is to check to see what the adult/child ratio is. Your state probably has requirements on how many adults are necessary per child population in each room. That number can change, depending on how old the child is. For example, a room for infants is going to need to have a higher adult/child ratio than a room full of 5-year-olds. Infants are going to need to have more care and more attention than older children. So, make sure that you know what the requirements are in your state and how many adults are in each room.
First Aid
Another thing that you want to check out is what kind of first aid information, equipment, and personnel the facility has. For example, how many of the adults have certification in first aid, including pediatric CPR, and how many of them are going to be on-site daily? Ideally, all of the adults directly involved with the care of the children should have their certifications, but some of the adults may still be in the process of being certified. You should also check to see if the facility has someone with more medical training available. That would be someone who would be like a school nurse. That person would be able to give medications to children as well as help with any medical issues that are too much for the other adults. They would also be able to work with the authorities in case someone needs to have more medical attention that the school can give. When you are finding out all that information, ask what kind of first aid equipment the facility has and where they are located. Each room should have a basic kit with larger kits and more supplies available to be used.
